President Obama marked his 100th day in office yesterday by pleading for patience, acknowledging “I’m not a miracle worker” and warning America that it faced “a much longer journey ahead”.
Mr Obama travelled to a suburb of St Louis, Missouri, to say: “Today, on my 100th day in office, I’ve come back to report to you, the American people, that we have begun to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and we’ve begun the work of remaking America.
“I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made but I’m not satisfied. I’m confident in the future but I’m not content with the present.” Reminding his audience that he had inherited problems of unprecedented size and scope, he added: “You know that our progress has to be measured in the results that we achieve over many months and years, not the minute-by-minute talk in the media.”
The President reiterated his intention to press ahead with a vast agenda including climate change, improving schools, introducing universal healthcare and even reforming the creaking US social security system.
The House of Representatives approved the Administration’s outline $3.4 trillion (£2.3 trillion) budget yesterday. Republicans, who voted unanimously against it, warned that future generations would be saddled with vast debts. Mr Obama was defiant, saying that the challenges faced by America could not be met with the “same old formula” but demanded action that was “bold and sustained”.
Mr Obama, whose aides had earlier dismissed the significance of the 100th day as a “Hallmark Holiday” of little interest beyond the media, nevertheless appeared intent on milking the event for all it was worth.

The death toll from twin car bomb blasts in a crowded Baghdad market rose to 51 Thursday, police said, and the country's main Sunni political party condemned the attack on a heavily Shi'ite Muslim area.
The car bombs Wednesday, which also wounded 76 people in the capital's sprawling Sadr City slum, followed a series of other attacks in the past two weeks that have stirred fears of a return to broader sectarian bloodshed in Iraq.
A third car bomb was found in a parked taxi cab and detonated by security forces.
The Iraqi Islamic Party, the main political party in parliament representing the country's once dominant Sunni minority, denounced the attack as a blatant attempt to trigger renewed fighting between Sunnis and Shi'ites.
U.S. President Barack Obama said Wednesday the string of recent deadly bombings was a cause for concern, but the political system was functioning and violence was low compared to a year ago.
Analysts said Iraq is likely to suffer suicide and car bomb attacks for several more years. While that will certainly present a dire threat to Iraqi civilians, it is less clear whether it presents a mortal threat to the state.

The members of the Church of Global Warming want you to give up oil. They are putting on permanent bans on offshore drilling.
Now they are eliminating tax credits so the oil companies become deeply in debt so they stop operating.
Or they have to pass on the cost to the customer who they think will make you get a small car with a lawnmower engine or a “green” car. The “green” cars will be plugged in to centralized coal fired power plants.
Mexico’s 33 million schoolchildren were ordered to stay home Monday, the country’s 240,000 schools slammed shut. The World Health Organization intensified its concern for a worldwide crisis. And nearly 150 Mexicans are now believed dead.
“We are in the most intense moment of the epidemic, and the number of cases unfortunately will continue to rise,” Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova said. “For that reason, we will take all the preventive measures necessary for its containment.”
But health officials have proved slow to interview and examine family of those who have already fallen ill or died. Citizens are being told to wear surgical masks to prevent contagion — soldiers, police and volunteers have passed out some 6 million in Mexico City alone — even though U.S. health experts say such masks are useless.
Mexican officials first warned the nation of this flu — a new hybrid mixing swine, bird and human varieties into a deadly cocktail — Thursday night, 11 days after its first fatality was reported in southern Oaxaca state.
The new flu is suspected to have killed at least 149 Mexicans since claiming its first victim April 13, Cordova said. Some 2,000 people have been treated for flu-like symptoms, and the government so far has determined definitively that only 20 of the fatalities were caused by the new flu strain, he said.
“Nobody believes the government anymore, said Edgar Rocha, a 28-year-old office messenger, told the Associated Press.
When asked why it took so long to identify the outbreak, Cordova told a news conference Monday: “We’ve never had a situation like this in the world. It’s the first time that a swine flu has been detected in humans. … Evidently, no one is a world expert.”
Some Mexicans suggested Monday that the government held off announcing the flu virus until after the President Barack Obama’s visit to Mexico City on April 16 and 17 for fear the U.S. leader would cancel his trip.

It seems this swine flu started in a poor rural area of Mexico that is made up of a lot of pig farms. The town of suspected patient zero has been fighting flu from earlier in the year. It seems Mexico’s national health service has not been much help to the town.
I have heard stories that Mexico’s NHS has not been giving vaccines to family members that died of the suspected swine flu.

Many conservatives blame Mexico’s national healthcare system as the cause for the numbers of flu patients and victims in Mexico compared to numbers in other countries. Other conservatives blame the illegal (criminal) aliens that waltz into the US.

The taxpayer bill for Monday's presidential plane flight over Manhattan was $328,835. The political cost to the Obama White House will be harder to calculate.

But the origins of the government public relations stunt that went awry remained a mystery — and a potential political problem for Obama. The White House military office approved the photo op, which cost $35,000 in fuel alone for the plane and two jet fighter escorts.
The sight of the huge passenger jet and an F-16 fighter plane whizzing past the Statue of Liberty and the lower Manhattan financial district sent panicked office workers streaming into the streets.
WCBS-TV in New York reported Tuesday that it had obtained a Federal Aviation Administration memo outlining the photo op. The memo acknowledged "the possibility of public concern regarding (Defense Department) aircraft flying at low altitudes" around Manhattan, but the TV station reported that the FAA demanded secrecy from the New York Police Department, the mayor's office, the Secret Service and the FBI.
A White House official has said the New York City mayor's office and other New York and New Jersey police agencies were told about the Boeing 747's flight. The official said the FAA, at the military's request, told local agencies that the information was classified and asked them not to publicize it.
White House officials said Obama was fuming mad and thinks Air Force One didn't need a new publicity photo anyway.

Obama spends more time on Air Force One than the Oval Office so he had to know Air Force One would not be able to take him to a campaign townhall meeting on that day.
You just had a terrorist scare in DC so they have evacuation plan of the President at all times. Air Force One is a major part of it so the White House knew about it.
Instead of a terrorist scare in NYC, the people of NYC would have been thrilled to have Air Force One flying near the Statue of Liberty. If the public had known, a good portion of NYC would have been watching with their cameras.
But Obama remains in campaign mode. Having a picture of “HIS” Air Force One in front of the Statue of Liberty is a great campaign photo. Also, Obama most likely planned to send an “autographed” photo as a campaign money grab from all the people still infected with the “Messiah” complex.
And this proves the Obama regime is living in a 9-10 mentality because they didn’t think or care about the panic the photo op would cause. I saw a video that you would have thought was shot on 9-11-01. It had a crowd of people running in panic. And this dipstick is in charge of our national security.
President Barack Obama will visit Fox High in Arnold this week, marking the second time a member of the administration has visited the school in the last several months.
On Wednesday, the president is scheduled to return to Fox, at a town hall forum that will begin at 10:30 a.m. According to the White House, the president will be fielding questions from the audience.

Many tree huggers whine about the plastic bags used at the grocery stores. They are getting the socialists in Congress to make plastic bags so expensive you won’t use them. Instead we will use paper bags and chop down more trees.
Or it is a tax thing. I regularly walk out with 3 or 4 bags doubled bagged when grocery shopping. That is $2 more in taxes. And this will hurt the poor the most.
Yes, it looks bad. Fox announced earlier today that it would not carry Wednesday’s primetime presidential address, opting to air Lie to Me instead. Now, it is rare for a network to tell a president "no,” but before we accuse Fox of political bias, greed, or abandoning civic responsibility, we should take a look at the record on airing presidential addresses—for all networks. In that light, Fox’s decision seems a lot less menacing.

To secure smuggling routes on the U.S.-Mexico border, better prevent the smuggling of narcotics and weapons across the border, and for other purposes. This Act may be cited as the `Border Sovereignty and Protection Act'.
`(i) IN GENERAL- In carrying out subsection (a), the Secretary of Homeland Security shall construct two layers of reinforced fencing along not fewer than 350 miles of the southwest border where such fencing would be most practical and effective and provide for the installation of related security infrastructure to gain operational control of the southwest border.
`(ii) BORDER PATROL ACCESS ROAD- The two-layered reinforced fencing required under clause (i) shall be separated by a Border Patrol access road.
`(iii) CONSTRUCTION DEADLINE- The Secretary shall ensure the completion of the construction of such two-layered reinforced fencing (including the installation of such related security infrastructure) required under clause (i) and the construction of the Border Patrol access road required under clause (ii) by not later than the date that is one year after the date of the enactment of this subparagraph.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person or organization to perform any abortion on an unemancipated minor under the age of 18, to permit the facilities of the entity to be used to perform any abortion on such a minor, or to assist in the performance of any abortion on such a minor, if the person or organization has failed to comply with the following requirements:
(1) Unless there is clear and convincing evidence of physical abuse of the minor by the parent, written notification has been provided to the parents of the minor, informing the parents that an abortion has been requested for the minor.
(2) There is compliance with a 96-hour waiting period after notice has been received by the parents.

In conceal carry states, criminals do worry, if the person they are going to rob, has a gun.
A person that is obviously from another state is a safer target for the criminal. With this law, the criminal may have second thoughts about robbing some one from a different state.
Miriam Harmatz, a lawyer in Miami, said: “My longtime primary care doctor left the practice of medicine five years ago because she could not make ends meet. The same thing happened a year later. Since then, many of the doctors I tried to see would not take my insurance because the payments were so low.”
To cope with the growing shortage, federal officials are considering several proposals. One would increase enrollment in medical schools and residency training programs. Another would encourage greater use of nurse practitioners and physician assistants. A third would expand the National Health Service Corps, which deploys doctors and nurses in rural areas and poor neighborhoods.
Senator Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat and chairman of the Finance Committee, said Medicare payments were skewed against primary care doctors — the very ones needed to coordinate the care of older people with chronic conditions like congestive heart failure, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
“Primary care physicians are grossly underpaid compared with many specialists,” said Mr. Baucus, who vowed to increase primary care payments as part of legislation to overhaul the health care system.
Obama administration officials, alarmed at doctor shortages, are looking for ways to increase the supply of physicians to meet the needs of an aging population and millions of uninsured people who would gain coverage under legislation championed by the president.
The officials said they were particularly concerned about shortages of primary care providers who are the main source of health care for most Americans.
One proposal — to increase Medicare payments to general practitioners, at the expense of high-paid specialists — has touched off a lobbying fight.
Family doctors and internists are pressing Congress for an increase in their Medicare payments. But medical specialists are lobbying against any change that would cut their reimbursements. Congress, the specialists say, should find additional money to pay for primary care and should not redistribute dollars among doctors — a difficult argument at a time of huge budget deficits.
Some of the proposed solutions, while advancing one of President Obama’s goals, could frustrate others. Increasing the supply of doctors, for example, would increase access to care but could make it more difficult to rein in costs.

A three-year-old girl awaiting heart surgery has had her operation cancelled three times this month because of a shortage of beds.
Ella Cotterell was due to have aorta-widening surgery on Monday at the Children’s Hospital, Bristol. But 48 hours beforehand, the operation was cancelled for the third time as all 15 beds in the intensive care unit were occupied, her parents said.
A hospital spokesman said that procedures would be reviewed, but the case highlights a growing problem of cancelled operations in the NHS.
More than 57,000 surgeries were postponed for non-clinical reasons, including a lack of beds, last year – 10 per cent more than the previous year.
“This is a national problem, there are not enough resources in the NHS and it is about prioritising.
“It is a matter of time before a child dies on the waiting list and I don’t want it to be Ella. If that does happen the Government will have blood on their hands.”

During testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the VP turned environmental advocate got into a brief verbal tussle with global warming skeptic Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) who questioned Gore’s statistics about carbon emissions.
“It is important to look at sources of science you rely on,” Gore told Barton. “With all due respect, I believe you have relied on people you have trusted who have given you bad information. I don’t blame the investors who trusted Bernie Madoff but he gave them bad information.”
Gore also took aim Global Climate Coalition, which represents the oil and coal industry, calling the group the “Bernie Madoff’s of global warming.”
“They have committed a fraud larger than Madoff’s fraud….they lied to people who trusted them in order to make money,” Gore said.
Gore’s assault on global warming skeptics came as the House deliberates a “cap and trade” bill sponsored by Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Ed Markey (D-MA) that would mandate carbon emission cuts.
Gore lauded the energy bill as “one of the most important pieces of legislation ever introduced in the Congress,” and compared it to landmark legislation including the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after WWII and 1960s Civil Rights bill.
“This bill will simultaneously address the climate crisis, the economic crisis, and the national security threats that stem from our dependence on foreign oil,” he said in his opening statement to the committee.

UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at a high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington.
Monckton told Climate Depot that the Democrats rescinded his scheduled joint appearance at the House Energy and Commerce hearing on Friday. Monckton said he was informed that he would not be allowed to testify alongside Gore when his plane landed from England Thursday afternoon.
“The House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated, so they slammed the door of the Capitol in my face,” Monckton told Climate Depot in an exclusive interview. “They are cowards.”
According to Monckton, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee, had invited him to go head to head with Gore and testify at the hearing on Capitol Hill Friday. But Monckton now says that when his airplane from London landed in the U.S. on Thursday, he was informed that the former Vice-President had “chickened out” and there would be no joint appearance.
