10:00 a.m.: Convene and expect to ask the Chair to lay before the Senate the House Message with respect to H.R.4213, the tax extenders bill.

This time, the GOP had nothing to do with the extensions being delayed.
Rather than put the extensions in a smaller bill, Reid and Pelosi decided to make it part of the larger HR4213 American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010.
HR4213 started in Dec.2009. Both the House and Senate had passed it by March 18th.
A week before their Memorial Day recess, Pelosi started backroom dealing to see if they could get voted to approve the Senate version.
The Friday just before the recess the House voted for HR4213 with amendments. Reid had already sent the senate home.
The Blue Dog democrats are feeling the GOP’s Paygo / national debt pressure. They cut back the extension from end of the year to the mid-term elections. Cobra extension may get totally cut.
Reid didn’t bring HR4213 to the floor today.
To those unemployed and needing the extensions, you will have to wait another day.

Oh thank you so much Nancy P. for putting politics in front of the good of the American unemployed who are deperately looking for work.
ReplyDeletethis is June 11,2010 and the senate is still letting the unemployed benefit extention go by the wayside. If the senators were with out any income for 2 weeks they would have pass the extentions benefit on Fridy before they went on Vacation .
ReplyDeleteSenate took another long weekend and won't come back until 2pm Monday but Reid doesn't plan to take any votes on Monday 6/14.
ReplyDeleteAnother way to let more people loose everything, We have been trying to find jobs, but there not out there.
ReplyDeleteI know you all in the senate do not care however; in the last year I have been through a bankruptcy(my credit score was a 802 before being laid-off)food stamps, no medical insurance (needing surgery and can't get it), stress, chest pains and to top it off I will probably be on the steets in a month . I have been looking for a job for the last year, and have worked in my field for 13 years and cannot find a job. Could you please extend the filing date for the unemployment insurance?
